Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
